Thank you - We are donating £2,128 to the Sea Life Trust
Claire here with an exciting update for you all - For the second year in a row, we have donated 50p from the sale of each of our Milk or Dark chocolate Ocean Easter eggs to the SeaLife Trust, a marine conservation charity based in nearby Poole here in Dorset. The Sea Life Trust operates 3 key conservation programmes mainly rescue beluga whale and puffin sanctuaries in Iceland and a seal sanctuary in Cornwall.
You may have watched the TV programme all about the beluga whale sanctuary fronted by John Bishop a few months ago! The Sea Life team also (before Covid) organised international beach cleans and support other marine conservation projects around the world.
Why are we supporting marine conservation? Well, Chococo was born in the seaside town of Swanage here in Dorset where we live and being good Swanage folk, we are keen sailors, swimmers and kayakers. I am also a round the world yachtswoman, having competed in the BT Global Challenge round the world yacht race back in 1996/7, so I have huge respect and concern for our oceans.
So a love of the sea is part of the DNA of Chococo and this is reflected in our refusal to use plastic packaging wherever possible - since launch back in 2002, our selection boxes have always had cardboard grids inside to hold the chocolates in place, never the plastic trays you see in most chocolate boxes and now we are 99% plastic-free across all our packaging formats. Whilst all our packaging is recyclable, recycled or compostable, we have just one category to find an alternative packaging format for and then we will be 100% plastic-free too!
Anyway, back to the Ocean Eggs - last year, thanks to the first lockdown hitting 3 weeks before Easter, sales of our eggs were curtailed so we raised only managed to raise just over £500 for the Sea Life Trust. This year we have been better able to keep making our eggs and managed to raise £2,128 for the trust - wow!!
We are also continuing our support with giving 50p for every new sign-up to our mailing list. We promise not to bombard you with loads of emails or give your details to anyone else, so if you haven't signed up yet, we hope you will consider it now and you can help us support this great conservation charity at the same time. It is easy to sign up, just find the sign up section at the very bottom of the home page of our website and provide your email.
Thank you again to everyone who bought one of our Ocean Eggs - we really do appreciate it!
