Winner of The Observer Food Monthly annual Easter Egg taste test published Sunday 17th March 2024 with 5 Stars & the 'Best Buy' accolade. Judged by baking queen Benjamina Ebuehi, this is what she had to say about our Sapphire Egg:
'This is a very good egg; really pretty, thick, good chocolate, a suprise inside - really good, salty caramels! I dont know what i would improve.'
Our bestselling Dorset Sea Salt Caramel Easter Egg is back for Easter 2024, with a new look and a new name; Our Sapphire Easter Egg!
Hand-decorated on the outside with stylish splashes of natural colours, when broken open, the stunning diamond-faceted 47% Colombia-origin milk chocolate Easter egg reveals six luscious 2 Star Gold Great Taste 2020 Award-winning Dorset Smoked Sea Salt Caramel gems nestled inside. Did you see what we did there in naming the egg after a blue gem to reflect the gems inside filled with Dorset sea salt?!
Each egg is moulded by hand in two halves in several stages to build up the layers of chocolate. If that isn't enough, we then fill the milk chocolate egg with the gems, before the two halves are hand-sealed together by our wonderful making team. Each and every egg is then hand-decorated by our resident artist Jacqui.
This egg was also voted 'Best for Design' by the team at the Good Housekeeping Institute in their annual Easter Eggs taste test for 2024. As it did so well in their taste test, it was also awarded one of their coveted Good Housekeeping Institute Taste Approved badges BUT you wont see this logo on any of our product photography as we cannot afford the £3,500 they charge for its usage! That fee only covers 3 months too, it's not even an annual fee! So you will only see big companies using this logo if any of their products have won a GHI award - sadly, artisan businesses like ours who also win, are not able to promote it in the same way, which is depriving the wider community of fine chocolate lovers the knowledge about smaller brands out there - hey ho, we press on.
This is what they had to say about our egg:
"This slightly geometric egg is hand decorated with colourful "paint splatters" and filled with gorgeous salted caramel gems. Our testers loved the stunning design and enjoyed the aroma of creamy sweet chocolate and mouthwatering cocoa notes. The full flavour and smooth texture were a hit too, with the hidden gems inside combining intense caramel, dark milk chocolate, and a hint of sea salt."
This egg, and the gems inside, weigh a total of 250g.
Each of our Easter Eggs is packaged in 100% plastic free cardboard packaging, which is recyclable.
Chococo's COCOA powered Promise...
This is chocolate for change. Slave-free, palm oil-free, less sugar, directly traded, totally sustainable and utterly equitable, not only is our chocolate officially delicious, it’s choc full of soul too. We don’t believe anyone else can match our COCOA powered promise…
Colourful
We’re a kaleidoscope of flavour and colour. Truly fine chocolates and as the Evening Standard once put it, “each one is like a miniature piece of art”. In 2024, we asked customers to describe our boxes, bars, novelty shapes, brownies and hot chocolate… the most common words were “innovative”, “delicious”, “ethical”, and “fun”.
Original
We’ve been handcrafting in the UK since 2002 and will always do so. We believe we were one of the first, if not the first, UK artisan chocolatier to pioneer making truly fresh chocolates using locally sourced seasonal ingredients. We’re an independent brand and believe that has always helped us produce chocolate with soul.
Conscious
We’re proud to work with our direct trade partners to produce chocolate that adds value to the local economy, is slave-free, palm-oil free, high in cocoa, low in sugar, and completely sustainable. 100% of our packaging is plastic-free and either recyclable or compostable too, and we support sustainability projects across the world.
Open
We strive to make the world of chocolate more open, opening up knowledge on cocoa and sugar, opening up opportunities for our partners, and opening up flavours for our customers with new products at prices that we aim to keep as low as possible, which only change when our supply and labour costs change significantly.
Award-winning
We’ve won 128 national and international fine food awards so far, with 77 Great Taste Awards including in 2023 for our signature milk and dark chocolates. We only enter awards that are blind judged, to benchmark ourselves, learn from the feedback of judges, and use those learnings to constantly improve.
