Elegant, simple, and truly delicious, our Chocolate Penguins are not only a wonderful, edible gift, but also make for a beautiful, zero-waste Christmas decoration as well (if of course they aren’t eaten before the big day!)
Handcrafted in our Dorset Kitchen, this 72% Ecuador Dark Chocolate Penguin stands tall with a distinctive Chococo faceted shape, and a naturally-coloured, hand-decorated 'feathery' tummy.
Our 72% Ecuador dark chocolate has a mellow, earthy flavour with notes of deep purple fruit. A single-estate chocolate, it is is exclusively produced for us by Martinetti Cocoa.
Martinetti Cocoa is a small family-owned chocolate company based in Quevedo in the heart of the cocoa-growing region of Ecuador. They have been in business for 50 years and have strong relationships with local cocoa farmers, buying their beans direct from their farms. Our 72% chocolate is made with beans bought from just one farm - Hacienda Zoilita which is a professionally run family farm of 200 hectares. See Our Chocolates page for more information about Martinetti and Hacienda Zoilita
This Direct Trade chocolate is made of fine single origin Arriba cocoa beans grown in the fertile, tropical climate of the Los Rios province, where Martinetti is based. This chocolate adds value to the local economy as it is produced from tree to chocolate by Martinetti in its country of origin, is put in strong paper sacks and shipped by sea for us to then work with - no middlemen at any point in our supply chain!
These showstopping chocolate Penguins have previously been featured in The Sunday Times and Good Housekeeping as a wonderful Christmas gift.
Ideal as a stocking filler, delicious Christmas present for a true foodie, or even as an edible festive decoration - this penguin is perfect for everyone.Packaged in a 100% plastic-free kraft box, with a paper wrap, you can be proud in the knowledge that this Chocolate Penguin is not only the finest, ethical chocolate but also has no waste packaging.
Each Penguin is approx 18cm tall and weighs 120g.
Chococo's COCOA powered Promise...
This is chocolate for change. Slave-free, palm oil-free, less sugar, directly traded, totally sustainable and utterly equitable, not only is our chocolate officially delicious, it’s choc full of soul too. We don’t believe anyone else can match our COCOA powered promise…
Colourful
We’re a kaleidoscope of flavour and colour. Truly fine chocolates and as the Evening Standard once put it, “each one is like a miniature piece of art”. In 2024, we asked customers to describe our boxes, bars, novelty shapes, brownies and hot chocolate… the most common words were “innovative”, “delicious”, “ethical”, and “fun”.
Original
We’ve been handcrafting in the UK since 2002 and will always do so. We believe we were one of the first, if not the first, UK artisan chocolatier to pioneer making truly fresh chocolates using locally sourced seasonal ingredients. We’re an independent brand and believe that has always helped us produce chocolate with soul.
Conscious
We’re proud to work with our direct trade partners to produce chocolate that adds value to the local economy, is slave-free, palm-oil free, high in cocoa, low in sugar, and completely sustainable. 100% of our packaging is plastic-free and either recyclable or compostable too, and we support sustainability projects across the world.
Open
We strive to make the world of chocolate more open, opening up knowledge on cocoa and sugar, opening up opportunities for our partners, and opening up flavours for our customers with new products at prices that we aim to keep as low as possible, which only change when our supply and labour costs change significantly.
Award-winning
We’ve won 128 national and international fine food awards so far, with 77 Great Taste Awards including in 2023 for our signature milk and dark chocolates. We only enter awards that are blind judged, to benchmark ourselves, learn from the feedback of judges, and use those learnings to constantly improve.
